COVID-19 in Australia

Grey values are yesterday's numbers. Australia's totals are incomplete until all states and territories have reported. Read more below.

Some notes on the summary:

• Data is reported weekly from September 2022. This page is currently designed for daily data, so not everything works perfectly.
• When numbers for today haven't yet been released, numbers for yesterday are shown in grey italics.
• Data for Australia is based on what states and territories report, so it is incomplete for the current day until all have reported.
• At the time of writing, Queensland and the Northern Territory treat most cases in hospital as a policy, making their hospitalisation rates look more serious than they otherwise would be.
• The indented "Per 100,000"/"Per 1,000,000" numbers are based on the seven-day average.
• Seven-day changes expressed as percentages are based on seven-day averages.
• Population positive in the last 14 days is very similar to the number of active cases as it's normally defined in Australia.
• R_eff is calculated based on the current seven-day average versus the seven-day average five days ago.
• Positivity rate is calculated by dividing the number of tests by the number of cases.
• The "Shared scales" option causes all charts in a row to use the same scale (adjusted for population where appropriate) for easier comparison.
• Hover over a chart with your mouse to see the maximum value shown.
• States and territories are ordered by population.

Some notes on the charts:

• You can see one measure for all regions or all measures for one region by selecting the appropriate option.
• You can see the data for any period in the pandemic by adjusting the "Time" and "Offset" options.
• There is no seven-day average for hospitalisation, ICU and ventilator numbers because that data is already smooth.
• Use "Shared scale" so that each of the charts uses the same y-axis. Using this with "Rate per capita" is helpful for comparing states.
• When using "Shared scale", the "Custom max" option allows you to specify your own maximum y value. This is useful if there is some values you're not interested in that are causing the maximum value to be higher than you want. Make the value blank to stop using it.
